All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players

Kunstenaar: Jeroen Doorenweerd

Being present in this place in this moment is a basic human need. Relaxation, vacation, recreation, getting away from the daily grind, just 'being there' for a moment. At these moments a kind of openness arises, a receptive way of looking and listening. It is beautiful if the environment responds to this, if there are a kind of perception amplifiers built in that make your eyes stand on stalks and your ears pricked up. Zooming in, zooming out, enlarging, mirroring, framing, looking through, emphasizing, positioning, color, sound, smell, alienation, point of view, eye level, distance, etc. etc.

Act, place and time Classical tragedy prescribes a unity of action, place and time. If the environment of Diever is the place of action and we are here and now both spectator and actor, what is the content, what is the script? It is life itself. The small daily humble details and also the great storms of human existence, the 'condition humaine'. Shakespeare's plays are not about crazy people, far away and wearing strange clothes. His work touches all sides of the human spirit, the uistere and the beautiful, then and now. It is about relationships and great emotions, about nature as metaphor, about darkness and light. Everyone has to deal with death, with love, with suffering, with desire, with fate. Everyone is sometimes player and sometimes plaything. Life is not right, it is incongruous and unruly. Implementing a playful approach; mixing reality with 'staging' and substantive Shakespearean references gives extra meaning and layers of experience to Diever that invite more depth in perception and awareness of the environment. In the urban design and landscape plan, in the arts plan, the events, the branding/identity and the commercial activities it gives a clear common starting point and also a lot of freedom and challenge to work with.
